What constitutes a commercial vehicle?
A commercial vehicle transports people or goods and is not used only as a private passenger vehicle. There are 3 classes of licence plates that apply to commercial carriers in Alberta. These plates are different from the ones used on personal vehicles. Any Commercial vehicle requires an annual Inspection.
What is a CVI?
Commercial Vehicle Inspection (CVI), is the enforcement of safety regulations and laws of commercial vehicles. … CVI enforcement can be done roadside by state troopers or at specific stations, sometimes called “weigh stations.” Below are of some of the things that are checked for: inadequate tires.

There can be many factors leading to successfully registering your heavy duty truck in Alberta, that originated and operated out of province or from another country such as the United States. Every Province, State, and or Country has specific guidelines of minimum maintenance levels to their heavy transportation vehicles.
